Fleeing poverty and conflict, tens of thousands of migrants have attempted to cross the Mediterranean this year in search of a better life in Europe. Many are attempting the crossing from Tunisia’s coast, where they pay people smugglers life savings to attempt the dangerous journey in cheap vessels. Many drown along the way.
